How to Block X on iPhone

Block X on your iPhone with a Screen Time limit, scheduled Downtime, website restrictions, or Aura's habit-based access.

X app icon

X mixes news, work, replies, and entertainment in one feed. A visit can be short and still interrupt the day if you repeat it every few minutes.

The right block depends on whether you want fewer checks, protected hours, or a complete break. Aura adds a fourth approach: you earn a limited check-in before the app opens.

Set a daily limit for X

Use an App Limit when total time is the main problem. Screen Time may list the app as X; an older report or saved setting can still say Twitter.

  1. 1

Open Settings and tap Screen Time.

  2. 2

Turn on App & Website Activity if it is off.

  3. 3

Tap App Limits, then Add Limit.

  4. 4

Open Social and select X or Twitter.

  5. 5

Choose the daily allowance and adjust individual days if needed.

  6. 6

    Tap Add.

Schedule hours without X

Downtime works well when X interrupts focused work or keeps you awake. It leaves the rest of the phone available, including apps you place on the Always Allowed list.

  1. 1

Go to Settings, Screen Time, then Downtime.

  2. 2

Turn on Scheduled and choose the hours.

  3. 3

    Turn on Block at Downtime.

  4. 4

Open Always Allowed and confirm X is not included.

  5. 5

Keep the communication and navigation apps you need available.

Block x.com and twitter.com

Deleting or limiting the app does not close the browser route. Add both current and former domains to Screen Time's Never Allow list if you start checking the feed in Safari.

  1. 1

Open Settings, Screen Time, then Content & Privacy Restrictions.

  2. 2

Tap App Store, Media, Web & Games, then Web Content.

  3. 3

    Choose Limit Adult Websites.

  4. 4

Under Never Allow, add x.com and twitter.com.

Earn a short X check-in with Aura

Aura keeps X locked until you complete a healthy habit. Each Aura coin buys one minute, so a ten-minute check-in has a clear end instead of turning into an open feed.

When the earned minutes run out, X locks again. Calls, messages, maps, and every app outside your blocked list continue to work normally.

  • Select X as a blocked app.
  • Complete a habit and collect coins.
  • Spend the number of minutes you need.
  • Let X lock again when the session ends.

Reduce the reasons to check

Turn off notifications for likes, reposts, recommendations, and trending posts. Keep direct-message alerts only if they serve a real purpose. A block is easier to keep when the app is not advertising itself on the lock screen.

If X is where you follow news, move a few trusted sources to newsletters or direct alerts. Then you can block the feed without feeling cut off from every update.

Common questions

Is X the same app as Twitter in Screen Time?

Yes. The current app is named X, but older reports or saved limits may still show Twitter. Check both names if you cannot find it.

Can I keep X notifications while the app is blocked?

Yes. Notifications and app access are separate iPhone settings. Turning off nonessential X alerts removes another reason to open the app.

Can I block X without blocking the rest of my phone?

Yes. Screen Time and Aura both let you choose specific apps. Calls, messages, maps, and anything you leave off the blocked list remain available.

Does deleting X delete my account?

No. Removing the iPhone app does not delete your X account, posts, messages, or followers.

Apple changes Screen Time labels from time to time. If a menu looks different on your iPhone, see Apple's current Screen Time guide and content restriction guide.
