How to Block Snapchat on iPhone

Block Snapchat on your iPhone with an App Limit, scheduled Downtime, website restrictions, or Aura's habit-based access.

Snapchat app icon

Snapchat mixes real conversations with streaks, Stories, Spotlight, and notifications designed to pull you back. You may open it to answer one person and leave twenty minutes later.

Because chats and the feed live in the same app, a useful rule needs to protect your attention without cutting off the people you care about. Screen Time can limit or schedule Snapchat; Aura can make a completed habit the price of opening it.

Set a daily Snapchat limit

An App Limit covers the whole Snapchat app, including chats, Stories, Spotlight, Snap Map, and the camera. Apple cannot place separate limits on those areas inside the app.

  1. 1

Open Settings and tap Screen Time.

  2. 2

Turn on App & Website Activity if needed.

  3. 3

Tap App Limits, then Add Limit.

  4. 4

    Open Social and select Snapchat.

  5. 5

Choose the daily allowance and adjust individual days if needed.

  6. 6

    Tap Add.

Schedule a short check-in window

Downtime is useful when you want Snapchat available at a predictable time but blocked during work, school, or sleep. Keep calls and messages available so urgent conversations do not depend on Snapchat.

  1. 1

Go to Settings, Screen Time, then Downtime.

  2. 2

Turn on Scheduled and choose the hours you want protected.

  3. 3

    Turn on Block at Downtime.

  4. 4

Open Always Allowed and make sure Snapchat is not included.

  5. 5

Tell close friends where to reach you when something is urgent.

Block Snapchat in a browser too

Snapchat for Web can reopen chats from a browser. If web.snapchat.com becomes the workaround, add it to Screen Time's Never Allow list. This also removes legitimate browser access to Snapchat.

  1. 1

Open Settings, Screen Time, then Content & Privacy Restrictions.

  2. 2

Tap App Store, Media, Web & Games, then Web Content.

  3. 3

    Choose Limit Adult Websites.

  4. 4

    Add web.snapchat.com under Never Allow.

Earn a Snapchat check-in with Aura

Aura lets Snapchat stay locked until you complete a healthy habit. The habit earns Aura coins, and one coin buys one minute of access.

Spend enough time to answer the people you meant to contact. When those minutes end, Snapchat locks again before a quick reply becomes a Spotlight session.

  • Select Snapchat as a blocked app.
  • Complete a habit before checking it.
  • Spend the minutes you want to use.
  • Let Snapchat lock when the session ends.

Keep the conversations, lose the prompts

Turn off Story, Spotlight, friend suggestion, and promotional notifications. Keep direct chat or call alerts only if you rely on them. Removing Snapchat from your first Home Screen also makes reflexive opening less convenient.

Streaks are Snapchat's rule, not an emergency. If you choose to keep one, put it inside the check-in window instead of letting it set the schedule for the rest of your day.

Common questions

Can I block Spotlight but keep Snapchat messages?

Not with Apple's App Limits. Screen Time limits the whole Snapchat app, including chats, Stories, and Spotlight.

Will blocking Snapchat end my streaks?

A block does not pause Snapchat streak rules. Plan a short check-in window if keeping a streak matters to you.

Does deleting Snapchat delete my account?

No. Removing the app from your iPhone does not delete your Snapchat account or Memories.

Can Aura block Snapchat but leave Messages available?

Yes. Aura blocks only the apps you select. Calls, Messages, maps, and everything outside that list continue to work.

Apple changes Screen Time labels from time to time. If a menu looks different on your iPhone, see Apple's current Screen Time guide and content restriction guide.
