Most screen time tools begin with a number. You pick thirty minutes, reach the warning, and decide whether to keep going while the app is already in your hand.
Earned screen time changes that order. Selected apps stay closed until you finish a habit such as reading, studying, exercising, or walking. The habit comes first; the scrolling time comes after it.
Why iPhone limits are easy to ignore
Apple Screen Time is useful for usage reports, Downtime schedules, and parental controls. A limit you manage yourself is easier to bypass because you also control the passcode and the extension buttons.
Screen Time sets a boundary. An earn-to-unlock app adds a reason to stop: access returns after you complete something you already wanted to do.
How Aura turns habits into minutes
In Aura, you select the apps that tend to take more time than you planned. Then you choose habits that can earn access. A completed habit produces Aura coins, and one coin buys one minute of screen time.
- Choose the distracting apps you want Aura to block.
- Pick a habit and decide what it should pay.
- Complete the habit using its photo, camera, timer, or Apple Health check.
- Spend the coins when you want to open a blocked app.
Set an exchange you can repeat
Start with something small enough to do on an ordinary day: ten minutes of reading, a short walk, making the bed, a focused work block, or a quick set of reps.
The rate should feel fair. If five minutes of effort buys an hour of scrolling, the rule will not change much. If every unlock requires a full workout, you may stop using the system. Adjust the rate until the trade feels useful without becoming a chore.
Leave essential apps alone
Aura blocks only the apps you select. Calls, messages, maps, music, banking, and anything else left off the list continue to work. The aim is to interrupt automatic scrolling while keeping the rest of the iPhone useful.
Try one app for three days
Pick the app you open most often without meaning to and pair it with one habit that takes five to fifteen minutes. Use that setup for three days before adding more rules.
If you never do the habit, make the first step easier. If the earned minutes disappear without you noticing, lower the payout or shorten the scrolling session. The settings should follow what you do, not the routine you wish you had.
